Retreat Opportunities

Antioch is a  weekend retreat experience for high school students.  It is a great opportunity to learn more about our Catholic faith, have fun and meet new friends.  It is definitely something you will never forget.  This year's Antioch Retreat took place on the weekend of January 26-28, 2007 and the theme was 'UnChanging'.  In the world today, it seems that things are constantly changing.  Music, clothes, trends, as well as our group of friends or our family situations might change.  But God's love is 'UnChanging'.  He is the Rock of our Faith and we can count on Him always.  Here is some teen feedback"

  • "Antioch was Awesome! We got to become closer to God and just get away from everyday life."
  • "When I walked throught the doors on Friday, I was a little nervous cause I did not know what to expect.  But by the end of Friday, I could not wait for Saturday."
  • "I now feel that God is actually listening to me.  I feel like he is my friend and I feel like he has come down from heaven and spent the weekend with us."
  • "My favorite part of the weekend was on Saturday Night when the team prayed with me, I felt like I was opening up to God."
  • "Confession was awesome cause I got to let go of my sins and start over with God."
  • "When I look back on this weekend, I will share my experiences with others and Thank God for everything he has done for me."

Steubenville East is a three day retreat experience for teenagers.  It is sponsored by the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio, which is the #1 Catholic University in the country.  For the seventh year in a row, US News and World Report has ranked this college among the best in the nation.  Statistics show that 88% of their students attend daily Mass.  About 30 years ago, the Franciscan University began to hold summer conferences for high school students on the grounds of their college campus in Ohio.  The Conference has grown so much in popularity that the University now sponsors their summer conferences in cities all over the U.S. and Canada.  This summer alone, over 35,000 teens will participate in the Conferences.

The Archdiocese of Newark has reserved 60 spots for teenagers in our area to participate in this year's Conference.  It will be held on the grounds of LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro, Massachusetts on the weekend of July 13-15, 2007.  Eleven high school students from our parish have already signed up to be just a few of the over 2500 teens who will attend.  The cost is about $225 per person.  There are still spots available if you would like to be a candidate on this summer retreat experience.  For more information, call the Youth Ministry Office at 201-664-3360.

Confirmation Day Retreat is a one day retreat held at the end of our two year confirmation preparation.  The Confirmation Retreat team is made up of juniors and seniors who oversee the day's activities.  They give talks about their faith and facilitate small group discussions with the candidates.

Here are what some teens said about this year's Confirmation Retreat Day:

  • 'The activities helped people be more relaxed and open with each other and it seemed that many people were impacted."
  • "The retreat was intense emotionally and honestly helped me cope with so many issues in my life."
  • "The best part was Confession.  Just being alone in the church, it let me think, pray and strive for forgiveness and let me talk to God in the way I know best."
  • "I though the retreat was excellent because everything said was so intense and deep that I really learned so much."
  • "From this retreat, I feel that I have gotten closer to God and understand more.  The samll group sharing was great because you were able to say what you felt and also heard what others had to say."
  • "I came into the retreat just counting the hours until I could go home, but it ended up being a great experience.  Now that Confirmation is over, I want to be more active in the Church."
